5 1/2 + 6 1/2 = 11 + 1 = 12
If you have to show the addition by converting the given numbers to improper fractions, then here it is:
2 X 5 + 1 = 11
2 X 6 + 1 = 13
i.e. 11/2 + 13/2 = 24/2 = 12
