The silent majority is an unspecified large majority of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly.
The term was popularized by U.S. President Richard Nixon in one of his public speeches in November 1969, when he appealed to the great 'silent majority' of his fellow Americans for their support.
The 'silent majority' referred to those people who did not participate in the anti Vietnam war demonstrations and in public discourse.
