Hi p43boutelle,

The aim of the pacification program was to identify and "neutralize" the civilian infrastructure supporting the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (NLF or Viet Cong) insurgency.

American pacification efforts took on many forms and consumed enormous resources during the Vietnam War. These programs failed to live up to expectations because of poor execution and a lack of support from conventional military units.

After the war it was agreed by both the Communist observers and the American supporters that pacification had taken too long and had cost too much.
