The major danger that the soldiers faced was that of death. There was a high death toll during the Vietnam War. This was because the soldiers had had very little training, so were inexperienced and were of low intelligence.
If you want to know about some of the environmental dangers faced by the American soldiers during the Vietnam War, they were rats, snakes, mosquitoes, spiders, iodine purified canteen water (two pills per canteen, then shake it), agent orange, and breathing smoke from bombs, smoke grenades, mortars, rockets and diesel fuel from tanks.
There were other situations which posed a lot of problems for the US army. Drugs were available in plenty in Vietnam; several soldiers got addicted to them and were constantly in and out of the infirmary; this reduced their concentration and weakened them.
