A collision between an oil tanker bound for Exxon Mobil Corporation's Beaumont refinery and an outbound vessel towing barges resulted in a major crude oil spill in the port of Port Arthur, Texas on Saturday, 23rd January, 2010. There were no casualties.
About 462,000 gallons of oil spilled of which it is said that 175,000 gallons has evaporated or dispersed and about 46,000 gallons has been recovered.
It was the largest spill in Texas in 16 years.
Fortunately, two sensitive wildlife areas nearby remain unaffected by the spill.
