Hi domo111, legend has it the Aztecs chose the site of their capital, Tenochtitlan, because of the presence of a bird perched on a cactus and eating a snake.

The Aztec chieftan had been told to look for this sign by Huitzilopochtli, who told him that the new Aztec homeland would be on an island in Lake Toxcoco. When they reached the island they were to look for an eagle eating a snake perched on a cactus growing from a rock or cave surrounded by water, and this was where they should establish their new city.
