Wow, that is a big question...my suggestion is start with this Google search for "plate tectonics". Plate tectonics explains how the earths surface crust moves around and explains what causes earth quakes etc.

Here's a couple more pages worth exploring:

Wikipedia on Plate Tectonics [obviously the usual care must be taken with Wikipedia because it isn't necessarily reviewed by qualified people]
