Hey,

Main centres are Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Auckland is know as the commercial centre of NZ which reflects the fact that it is also the largest city by a long way. Auckland is also known as the City of Sails because of all the boats on the habour.

Wellington is of course the capital and poilitical centre of NZ. Also known for it's cafe culture and the arts.

Christchurch is the 'Garden City' and is known as the largest city in the South Island and relative conservatism.

Dunedin is best known as a student town, home of Otago University.

You might also call Queenstown one of the main centres...it is certainly NZs best known tourist destination known as a hub for adventure sports.
